Let's Get Vintage

Photography by Neil Krug
I think we can all agree that Photoshop is an amazing beast of a program. With so many applications, its always fun to learn something new to do with it. So, being inspired by Neil Krug's vintage-esque photos from My Chemical Romance's "Na Na Na" video, I hit the web to find out exactly how to pass my own (already taken) photographs off as blasts from a hazy, acid-laced past. Join me past the break, won't you?

After hours of extensive Googling (Ha! Yeah, right.), I stumbled upon a quick and easy how-to guide written by Darren Rowse on the photography website 'Digital Photography School'. The multi-step process makes your photos look like classic Lomo photography. The guide is fairly easy enough for anyone to follow along on Adobe's Photoshop, and I recommend you check out the link below to get your own vintage juices flowing. Now, I actually added my own step which involves adding a new "Selective Color" layer from under the "Adjustments" tab on the right side of the screen. Its among the grid of other layer choices like "Lightness/Contrast" and "Hue/Saturation." In this step, I chose the color black underneath the "Color" drop down menu and adjusted the cyan, yellow, magenta, and black sliders until I thought my colors had that touch of vintage off-coloring.
If you find yourself not tech savvy enough, you can just check out my results below instead.
